When asked to design a wooden toy car, I wanted to find a lateral and somewhat poetic solution. I decided to design shadows of cars. I expanded on this by designing three scenario sets: a traffic scene, a safari scene, and altogether unrelated to the initial brief, toy robots. Shadows cast from the toys evoke a sense of mystery, and, when long shadows are cast, evoke a sense of drama as well.
The shapes are cut from 3mm plywood and are attached to a wooden stem which is then inserted into a pine standing block.
Toys shadows can be used as toy puppetry, but also set up in dining situations or in restaurants, where the shadows can create casted shadow wallpaper.
